How much would it cost to boil water on a hot plate running off a generator vs. using a gas stove directly?
Which would cost more, given today's prices?
Maybe one way's faster than the other....
How about bringing water to boil, both ways, in exactly the same time?
(Ballpark approximations are fine)
I have no way to come up with exact cost. However...
Running my gasoline generator for a day consumes about a tank of gasoline, about 5 gallons. How long would it take you to consume an equal value of gas in the stove? This would ignore the cost of purchasing the generator, maintenance, and so on.
I haven't yet seen a convincing arguement anywhere that operating a gasoline or diesel powered generator is more economical than bulk energy sources such as natural gas or electricity.
If your house is off grid without electrical connection, the gas stove would still be cheaper to operate than the generator.

Would standard black polish be a sufficiant supplement for hot plate polish or not?
got no hot plate polish for my cooker but need it poilished can i use shoe polish? or not whats the difference
No.
Shoe polish is (typically) carnuba wax in a volatile hydrocarbon solvent - a highly flammable combination.
Get the right stuff.
