Fender Amp Handle
A good guitar for me?
Ive been playing guitar for about a year and a half now, so far just had a crappy old Ashton AG131 to play, and a 10 watt ibanez amp. I play metal, death metal, and the odd bit of jazz and clean stuff, mostly stuff with high distortion though. Im ok at playing, i can do all the obvious metal techniques pretty easily, some sweep picking and legato. Obviously, my guitar cant handle any style very well, so im looking to buy a new one. I have about 600 dollars (NZ) to spend on it, so thats about 380 US. I also recently got a Fender Princeton Chorus 125 watt amp for free, so no problems with having a bad amp anymore =).
What guitar should i buy? Any recommendations will be appreciated.
For your style, I recommend ESP/Ltd Guitars. They are especially made for that style (thin necks, sleek handling, plenty of room to pick, etc.) You can get some good guitars for that cash, (Ltd V-200, F-50, M-50, and EX-50), but the pickups will suck (as with most lower priced guitars). I recommend you get one of those guitars and save up for some nice EMG humbuckers. They run up to 200 for an active or passive set. It may cost more to install active pickups, but you'll thank yourself later.
And always keep in mind that it costs less to get a less endowed-guitar that plays very well and then install pickups than to get one that already has great pickups. A lot less.
